Many of you have questions about why Hoppin’ Grapes is closing. To many of you, we say, “Mind Ya business”. However, since you asked nicely, here is what’s going on:
Kristine and Eric have reached a point where they need a break. Eric’s many ailments after 20 years of military service (including 6 deployments in service and 2 more as a contractor) have left him unable to continue to provide the level of service required of the high standards Kristine and Eric have set out for. The COVID closures (and slow reopening) were soul-crushing. The cost of labor is ever-increasing along with inflation. We can’t look you in the eye and expect you to pay $20 for a glass of wine just to keep our lights on. The bottom line, it’s just time.
Kristine and Eric started Hoppin’ Grapes in 2013. Over the years, they provided a level of service unheard-of in Sierra Vista. They employed over 12 different people throughout the years including two full-time positions. They always paid their people over minimum wage. In fact, with the generosity shown by many of our patrons, their employees were some of the best-paid bar/ serving staff in Sierra Vista.
Outside of serving Sierra Vista’s parched throats, Kristine served four years on Sierra Vista’s City Council, volunteered on the West End Commission, and volunteered at the Salvation Army. She served as a volunteer board member for Southeast Arizona Hospitality Association, Sierra Vista Rotary West, and the Friends of the Sierra Vista Animal Shelter. Eric served as a volunteer for the Men Who Cook annual event, Sizzle Annual Event, and assisted Kristine with her many volunteer ventures.
Now onto the Q and A:
Q: Why are you closing? A: Read above.
Q: We heard you are closing because of (insert rumor here). A: Nope. Read above.
Q: Aren’t you guys owned by the Spouse’s Club? A: Nope. Never.
Q: We heard the City/ City Council/ Some other form of Government is closing you down.. A: Nope.
Q: You are closing because you don’t know how to run a business, right? A: Feel free to purchase our Series 7 Arizona License and have a go at it yourself.
Q: It’s because your rent is too high, right? A: Nope. Our landlord hasn’t raised the rent in 10 years. He is amazing and always met our needs as tenants.
Q: Are you staying local in Sierra Vista? A: No. We are moving back east to be closer to the grandbaby!
Q: How do we open a wine bar? You can read Kristine and Eric’s upcoming book, “So You Wanna Open a Bar: The Hoppin’ Grapes Story” due out on Amazon in January of 2023.

CHARITY (How Hoppin' Grapes Gives Back)
We love giving back when we can. Right now, we are offering charities a unique opportunity. We will host a special wine social event for which we will both sell tickets for a set price. A portion of each ticket sold and 10% of all sales resulting from the tasting event, will go directly to the charity.
We ask that you be a 501(c)(3) charity and that you provide proof of such before we will discuss options. Our special event wine tastings usually include a glass of wine, beer, or non-alcoholic beverage and snack-sized cheese plate.
Below is an example of how successful an event like this can be:
Our last local charity wine social at our Hoppin' Grapes Wine and Beer Bar lasted two-hours. This event raised over $700 for the charity.
Please call 520-338-WINE today and set up a meeting with Kristine or Eric to discuss how your charity can take advantage of this program.
